Herpetology is one of the three sub-sections under Zoology section at New Guinea Binatang research Center. In this section we mainly focus on amphibians, mainly frog research. We also do general collection and identification of snakes, skinks, geckos and fresh water turtles.

Herpetology section comprises of two local scientists and two locally trained para-taxonomists actively participating in scientific research and biodiversity surveys. our work include an altitudinal study on frog community composition and distribution along the Mt. Wilhelm transect, fragmentation study to determine the effect of forest fragmentation on lowland frog community composition, abundance, species richness and diversity. We are also involved in biodiversity surveys and monitoring with other NGOs, government and industries. Our work overs the areas of Madang, East Sepik, New Britain, Mt. Wilhelm and several other locations in the highlands and southern region
