Transport

Wanang village is approximately 100 km from Madang. It can be reached in one day from Madang.

Most of the travel is along unsealed logging roads that are becoming progressively worse as you travel towards Wanang. It is possible to drive (in a 4WD vehicle) all the way to Wanang most of the year, but two hours walk is necessary when road in poor condition.

The Swire Station can be reached from the Madang town in 1-2 days, depending on road condition. A final walk through the rainforest is always necessary, unless you take a helicopter ride (possible but expensive).
